Brodin is the one who got snubbed. Yakupov deserves to be there too, but Brodin played unreal this season. |

Absolutely. He's been fantastic. He's a huge minute-eater too. |

Saad has no place on that list. |

Schultz was -17, good enough for 831st best/ 839 players... on a team that only was -9 in goal differential.
I agree with Yak though... shoulda been nominated |

I'd agree they were up there....but I think the roles each of the other rookies played on their teams had a little bit bigger of an impact than merely points, and obviously the success of their teams.
Saad for example came in and found a spot on Chicago's first line, not to mention he helped his team win the Presidents trophy.
Gallagher helped his team go from absolute s#it to NE Division Champions, not to mention he was a +10 on the year.
Huberdeau would be the only exception as the Panthers weren't a good team this year. That being said he was second on the team in scoring and played a large roll on that team.
If it was up to me I would swap out Huberdeau and put in Brodin. For a kid like Brodin to come in and play the minutes he played on a playoff team is pretty remarkable. The points weren't there but that's not all what hockey is about!
Shultz and Yakupov had good years, but for the majority of the season Yakupov wasn't effective out there until he found his game towards the end of the year. Schultz had his moments as well but struggled with his defensive game. Not to mention the Oilers had another down year.

Saad has no place on that list. - LetsGoBuffalo75
Why? He was one of the best rookies for the last half of the season?
After getting 3 points in his first 18 gp, he was on fire, 24 points in his last 28 gp. |

27 points, plus 17, on the first line of the Presidents trophy winning team...sure, maybe he won't win, but he has a place on that list for sure. |

Hahaha "If you ask me, Yakupov, Schultz and Brodin were the three best rookies this year in the NHL." - SameOld
I'd agree with him....Brodin had a Schenn like rookie season. Solid and above expectations, but not a calder winner imo. |

I think Saad is suffering from Chris Versteeg syndrom , I recall he was in the exact same situation as him(first line on a very good Blackhawks team), but I guess what made Saad and Versteeg good is that they ceased the opportunity. |

Contentious field.
No bias.
No Snubbing per se.
I'm not going to slight any of those players. Yakupov and Schultz had great great seasons though. - Morris
Yak being omitted to me is the only surprise. it was a great rookie class, they all did well. |

I had brodin on my top 3 but I've felt all along its Gallaghers (unfortunately) so it doesn't really matter who gets a nomination.

Because you're a (frank)ing joke. You're not a reporter, you're just some idiot clown who blogs on the internet and makes poop up.. Lucic to Edmonton done yet? - SameOld
I don't think you're being nice to the guy, but I do feel he should get a roasting for that one. |

So how much of Brodin's success is because of him and how much is because of Suter? We saw first hand in Edmonton how Pronger made Marc-Andre Bergeron look like a real good d-man.
Personally I don't care too much about the Calder, yes it's a nice bonus to these kids but in the long run it means jack poop. The best player to ever play the game never won it, arguable the best player in the game today never won it, the best sniper in today's game never won it, the best goalie in the league today never won it and the best d-man in the game today never won it. |

I just figure its a given that the guy who lead all rookies in goals and points would be there. |

Yeah I could easily have seen him there. I think Huberdeau was the best rookie, with a bunch of guys who probably received a ton of 2nd and 3rd votes each, Yaks and Schultz among them. I'd venture that the Same Team factor could have split their votes just like the Same Role factor split Stay at Homers Brodin and Brenden Dillon's votes. But I'm not a conspiracy theorist. |

Also know as the Cory Coancher syndrom from 2013. Put with elite players he produced, taken off and not so much. |

Argument people are making against Brodin is that he played along side Suter which obviously helped. No matter. He still played well enough to get the nod. Schultz was close, but I would have had him just outside the ballot. Yak should 100% be in and should have won it. PHWA are tards. plain and simple. |

Yeah I agree....either way, it's hard to say how much success he would have without Suter. But he had a great year, and is playing great in the playoffs. I'm not gonna hold it against him. |

It is probably because the writers want a defensemen to actually play defense. Schultz's -17 is Cam Fowler rookie year bad!
Plus Schultz is a lying Dbag.
Yak,,,,,,that is one that is a bit perplexing to be honest. I thought he had a real good year. |
